One of the first things people asked me when I told them I’d be starting this website was “why”? Most people who are interested in minor hockey and the prospects of tomorrow have an interest in researching and scouting players that they one day may see in the OHL or in some cases, the NHL.

When I first flirted with the idea of writing about Minor Midget hockey, how I would focus my efforts was an easy decision. Most sites that cover the game at this level tend to focus on leagues such as the GTHL and American teams because that is where many of the top prospects filter out of. The Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario is, in my opinion, the least covered association in Southern Ontario. That, despite the fact that three MHAO skaters were selected in the first round of the 2015 OHL Priority Selection Draft.

This isn’t my first rodeo in minor hockey. I originally started my career in minor hockey as a coach when I was 19 years old and have been coaching ever since which equals seven years.

I began following the AAA Minor Midget scene in 2013 and have since followed the product, focusing mainly on the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario. Coverage has included big tournaments, playoffs, OHL Cup and the OHL Gold Cup along with the OHL Priority Selection draft. Previously, I served as a writer, editor, producer, host and technical director at theScore Television Network and theScore on SIRIUS radio from April 2010 until October 2012.

I will always welcome feedback, whether positive or negative. If you want to chat Alliance hockey or anything for that matter, I encourage you to message me on Twitter @Dave_Coulson.

2016 Update – Well, we made it through year one. There were great ups and downs during the inaugural season of this site, but I must say it was a blast. The feedback from the readers and those at the rink was also very humbling to hear.

Coming into the 2016/17 season, a season in which some Alliance teams are projected to compete very well with other teams in the province, the coverage is about to get even better. Firstly, I will be attending 7 tournaments this season, including the Alliance Showcase, Silver Stick and the OHL Cup. I will also be monitoring more of the Bantam scene as well to further preview the future players.

In addition, video content is hopefully on the way. I have plans to begin posting full game footage in addition to player showcases. There are other plans in the works, but those are dependant on a few outside factors that are a bit out of my control.

I’m open to any and all suggestions so please do either leave a comment or find me on Twitter @Dave_Coulson.

  1. I just wanted to clarify one of your articles. In day one off your All Star coverage “Team Navy defeats Team White 5-4” you mentioned that young played two periods and Walker replaced Young for the third. Walker played the entire game, Young did not play in that game. Walker played game 1 and 3 and Young played the entire game 2 and 4.

I enjoyed reading your coverage of the weekend.
    Pete Young
