2014/15 Major Bantam Record – 18-6-8 (3rd overall)

Final Result – Lost in 4 to Waterloo in Quarter-Finals

After a 2nd straight appearance in the OHL Cup, the Jr. Rangers hope they can ride great goaltending and solid defence into another appearance and an Alliance Championship.

Last years Kitchener squad was led by 2nd year Minor Midget players Owen Lane and Jason Willms and it was their experience that helped the Rangers take London to the brink in their semi-final season. It was their mid-season accomplishment that really put the Jr. Rangers on the map last season. In the Toronto Marlies holiday tournament, the Rangers surprised everyone but themselves when they made it all the way to the finals to take on the Don Mills Flyers. Despite coming short, their run put all of the other Alliance teams on notice that they were for real.

While last years Minor Midget team surprised some with their play, the Major Bantam team disappointed in their playoff run. The Bantams met the Waterloo Wolves in their quarter-final series and were shut down by Nathan Torchia in four games.

For this upcoming season, the team will have many familiar faces. Rhetton Kimmel will continue to lead the charge in net, Eric Uba will bring back his speed and play making ability and Gianfranco Commisso will continue to be the physical presence with a laser beam for a shot. Add in former Waterloo d-man Nathan George and Cambridge’s Ben Demoe up front and the Jr. Rangers are poised for another good season.

One note on this roster that shouldn’t surprise many give their history is that the Jr. Rangers are the only team this season to have a player born in 2001 on their roster. Justin McCombs makes the move from Minor Bantam up to Minor Midget, similar to what Lane and Willms have done previously. It’s not clear how much playing time he will get, but he’s definitely a player to watch out for.

The Jr. Rangers will open up their campaign at home on September 12 as they host the Cyclones of Chatham-Kent.
